Waving the White Flag...

I've been captivated by the Idol juggernaut.

This week: Comanche Moon

After seeing all of the promos for Comanche Moon, I thought it might be nice to tape for a rainy (writers' strike) day. I haven't watched any of the previous Lonesome Dove miniseries, but I feel a need to stockpile.

I haven't decided what to do. After all, American Idol premieres this week too. That's a lot of hours of TV. And the other networks are counterprogramming, so there's plenty to watch this week. I just don't know what's going to happen come March, post-sweeps.

I'm leaning towards putting all of Lonesome Dove on my NetFlix list and watching them in order.

sigh. I have about five hours to decide.

Emily didn't win. :(

Em came in second, after a flurry of last-minute votes from the second place holder. I have my thoughts, but I think I'll keep them to myself. You can read between the lines.

Torchwood

Oh, also, I've been watching Torchwood. John Barrowman is a god. And I'm liking the show.

This WGA Writers' Strike Thingy is Getting Tricky

Happy New Year (except for the writers' strike).

Tonight is something of a dilemma. The only thing on that's not football, reality show or repeat is a 2-hour Law and Order. Tomorrow? ER is the only new scripted show(more on that in a second). That's not gonna do it for me.

Thankfully, the little red envelope has come to the rescue. I received five DVDs from NetFlix today. So, here's the plan to avoid Omorosa vs. the Combover: Timeshift L&O to tomorrow before ER.

So what do I have to choose for tonight?
Dreamcatcher. mmm, Stephen King on a cold dark night? I don't think so. I rented this again after watching the first two seasons of Deadwood. I don't remember Timothy Olyphant in it.

Bhagam Bhag. I love Bollywood movies. I think I rented it to see Akshay Kumar. It's a comedy about a theater troupe.

Caché. I have no idea why I rented this. Maybe on the recommendation of my friend Sylvia. It's French and according to imdb has little to no continuity. And no musical score at all.

Live Free or Die Hard. Hmmm. Not quite long enough at 2:10. And probably really loud, too. I don't know if I want to deal with the explosions.

Krrish. Ah, this has promise. Hrithik Roshan as a superhero. And it's almost three hours. Recommended by a friend at bigbrotherupdates.com I think we have a winner.

Now, about ER. Why, you ask? Well, I've been watching ER since Dr. Mark Greene got some lovin' from his wife in his on-call room (S01E01). I used to work in an ER, as a clerk. I know that stuff like that actually happens (and a lot more, that I'm not about to write about!) I've gotten comfortable watching it on Thursday evening. And I'll watch every episode until it's over. Because I want to. Stupid subplots be damned, ER is an old friend. You don't turn your back on your friends.

Coming, Hrithik! Bye, now.

Caught up with Monk

Well, four days later and I've finally watched the latest episode of Monk. Watching shows back-to-back is a good and a bad thing.

The bad is Adrian himself. He's so self-absorbed that it gets tiresome hour after hour. I ended up just wanting to smack him. It stopped being cute and lovable, I guess.

The good is all of the inside jokes. In the season 6 Christmas episode, the truck that's blocking the intersection is marked "BBQ" the quarry Monk and Kroger's son got buried in. Randy Disher is wearing the sweater his aunt sent him, the red one that she said she made, but one of the other cops knew came from the local big-box store. And the best part is they weren't mentioned, they were just there, as little Easter eggs to constant viewers.

What happens with my iTunes Store subscriptions to Monk and Psych are still unknown. They said they'd get back to me, but they haven't so far. I may have to resort to waiting to rent them from NetFlix again when the DVDs come out. Not a smart move, NBC/Universal. Happy New Year, y'all!
